For all of you that know me, Red Rising is my all-time favorite book. The graphic novel came out a while ago and I never got around to purchasing it. Lucky for me, Markus got it for me as a present for my birthday! It is a prequel graphic novel to the series called Red Rising: Sons of Ares by Pierce Brown.
Synopsis: In the future, when mankind has spread across the stars, the hierarchy of man is dictated by the color of one’s caste. The Golds rule all, but what will happen when one falls for a lowly Red? See how a forbidden love will set the course of events for the future and lead to the formation of the formidable Sons of Ares!
It was really good. I enjoyed the prequel in how it was written and how it explained certain things that were not revealed in the book series. It gave just enough backstory to show you how some characters came to be and it was done in a visually pleasing way.
I will say the art style was not my favorite. I feel like this could have been much more intense if it was drawn by different artists. Nothing against the art style done here, I just feel like it could have been conveyed better if it was drawn by some other artists I prefer that draw for Marvel and DC. This is purely my personal preference.
Learning about Ares was fun because he is a pivotal character and his actions will set a pace for the rest of the series. Plus it answers questions that I have been asking since I finished the main trilogy.
Overall, it was a great prequel graphic novel and I would read more graphic novels about the Red Rising series because I just can’t get enough of this amazing world created by Pierce Brown.
Book Rating: 4/5

Disclaimer: This book was purchased for me as a gift and I read it because I wanted to. I was in no way compensated for my honest review.
It is finally September and I completed my NEWTS TBR but until I make that video, here is my September TBR where I talk about the books I will be reading this month and announce my giveaway winner!
Well it’s finally here, last day of the book challenge! I honestly have to think really hard for this one because there are so many books that I love. I know it only says one book but I am choosing two favourite books because I want to :P. My two faves which everyone has heard me talk about already so I won’t make this post long, are The Hunger Games by Suzanna Collins and Red Rising by Pierce Brown.
I’m sure you have heard me talk about both of these books enough so we will leave it that and you know they are my favourite. I’m kind of sad that the book challenge is over because I enjoyed doing it so much so I guess I will have to find another challenge to do between book reviews.
You can find the books on Amazon here:
I should have a review coming soon for a book full of ghost short stories that was sent to me by STORGY of stay tuned! Also let me know what your favourite book of all time is in the comments below 🙂 Oh and on a cheery note, my blog received 500 likes so thank you to everyone who is supporting me and reading the blog! I really appreciate it guys.
My favourite writer would have to be Pierce Brown, the author of the Red Rising series. I know I talk about this series a lot but it is because I love love love the writing style and I am pretty sure I would like anything that he writes.
Sci-fi is his main topic that he writes about but it works for me because I love that genre. I could read this series over and over again and never get tired of it. I really hope they adapt it to a movie but they better not f**k it up! He has an addition to the series called Iron Gold coming out in 2018 which I can’t wait for.
He even had the series adapted into comic books which is the key to my heart (besides food). Yea I don’t have much else to say. I am much better at talking about the books than the authors.
Tell me who your favourite writer is in the comments! I would love to know who everyone is fond of reading. Talk to you later bookworms!
Well this one is easy because I talked about it yesterday. My favourite book of my favourite series is Red Rising because it set the bar for the whole series and I just couldn’t put it down. This book was recommended to me by my good friend Neil Montgomery. He reads a lot of science-fi and always has great recommendations for books of this genre.
The trials and challenges that Darrow endures to get up the ranks and blend in as one of society’s most favoured is an adventurous and exciting journey with lots of plot twists. The book features a tiered list of the different colours and how they are ranked in the society. Red is the lowest colour and Gold is the highest. Darrow is from the Red colony and his goal is to get in with and be accepted by the Gold’s so that he can take them down from the top. He is undertaken as a member of the refugee rebellion and sent into the school of the upper class as a spy to observe and learn so that he can gain their trust. Darrow is a natural leader and he makes many friends and allies along his journey to the top.
I think this book is amazing so I would strongly recommend to give it a shot if you like fantasy, science-fi, adventure, thriller, or action genres. The series recently came out with a new book called Iron Gold which I have not purchased yet but will be doing very soon (or I will ask for it for Christmas if I can wait that long). Pierce Brown is a great author and I hope he continues to write masterpieces 😛

That’s it for this post but talk to you soon bookworms!
Day 3 of the book challenge and I am very excited about this one because I get to share with you a book trilogy that is my all time favourite series and I really think everyone should read it at some point in their lives. So without further ado, I introduce to you the Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown.
This series is an action packed thrill ride. It is like the hunger games on crack. The setting of the book is in space and it has a roman god / greek mythology theme to it with lots of survival and rebellion. There are so many awesome characters in this book series and my favourite character is Sevro (not the main character). If you read the series, you will see why he is the best (I don’t want to give any of the awesomeness away). Here is a quote from the first chapter of Red Rising,
“I live for the dream that my children will be born free,” she says. “That they will be what they like. That they will own the land their father gave them.”
“I live for you,” I say sadly.
Eo kisses my cheek. “Then you must live for more.”
Everything about this series just gets my adrenaline rushing when I read it. If they turn this series into movies, I will be thrilled and fearful at the same time. I would love to see it come to life but I know I will be very critical since its my favourite series so I hope they can do it justice on the big screen.
What is your favorite book series? Let me know in the comments!
