T-minus 1 week until I am off to Ireland. I am getting very excited and am looking forward to the two weeks off work. I have also been watching a lot of booktube since I started a channel and have been getting into that niche and I heard of this thing called the Harry Potter Readathon.
Essentially, we are training for our OWL’s and have different classes we must take in order to get the magical career or our choice. Naturally, I want to be an Auror so I will be taking 5 different OWL’s to achieve this. In order to take these OWL’s, we need to read a different book that falls under each category for the classes. For example, Herbology is to read a book with a plant on the cover.
I will be releasing a new youtube video highlighting my selections and talking about the readathon more in-depth and what each class requires a.k.a what type of book I need to read for each.
As for the comic book giveaway, I had a tremendous amount of entries and am very thankful for everyone that participated. Congratulations to
I will be hosting another giveaway at the end of April when I get back from my trip so keep an eye out for that! Have a great weekend everyone and make sure to check out my youtube channel if you haven’t yet…the readathon video is coming soon!
I recently uploaded my Booktube Newbie tag video so check it out below if you are interested. I would love it if you subscribed but that is completely up to you!
Hey guys! I wanted to express my complete gratitude for all of you! I saw on Twitter today that I surpassed 1000 followers and am so excited to keep growing in the book blogger community.
I enjoy being able to read so much and share my reviews with you. It’s so much more than reviews too. I get to connect with authors, publishing companies, book bloggers, and book tubers all over the world and share/collaborate with them. That is #thedream.
Because I am so excited about reaching this milestone, I want to throw another giveaway! This one will be a comic book bundle consisting of 8 different editions, a Spiderman bookmark, and some fun stickers.
You can enter this giveaway by going to Rafflecopter or by clicking on the above image. It will also be live on Twitter and Instagram for extra entries!
I will also give extra entries to people that check out our Youtube channel and either comment on a video or subscribe! I will put the video below to make it easier for you.
Other than that, I just really wanted to get across that I am very thankful for all of you and will continue to create content and write reviews and be a part of this amazing community of bloggers.
Talk to you later bookworms!
As promised, here is the video with the giveaway in it!
Hey bookworms! Guess what?!?! Well, you probably already know from reading the title of this post but I am going to Ireland and Scotland! I am so excited about this trip and it is so hard to contain that excitement.
The planning stage has begun and I am looking into all the best things to do in both places. *Also trying to travel on a budget but I feel like that might be tough*. If you have been to either of these places and have suggestions on what to do then please leave them down in the comments!
I may be away from the blog during those two weeks as I will be exploring a new place and sipping beers (Guinness) and kissing stones (oh Blarney). So I just thought I would let you know. But this isn’t happening until mid-April so I will still be posting regularly until then.
We ended our giveaway that we were hosting from the author interview we had with Shelby. The winner will receive pdf versions of her poetry books. The winner of this prize is…
You can find her on Twitter and Youtube. We will be in touch to let you know you have won and will send you your prizes.
I also released my second video onto book tube yesterday so feel free to watch it here and make sure to like and subscribe if you like it!
So this weekend started off with a little shopping at Chapters and I went a little crazy. I bought a bunch of books for my giveaways that I like hosting. I have been thinking about the giveaways and how much fun they are to host so I think I will start doing them weekly. This is more of an update post to show you guys the giant pile of books and to also let you know to be prepared for awesomeness! I will be starting a giveaway tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled.
I’m currently doing a buddy read with Joe Martin for Armada by Ernest Cline and am also reading Lure by Jeff Marschall. Which means there will be 2 more reviews coming at you soon.
I also created a Youtube page where I will start doing video reviews so if you haven’t already, you should g subscribe. I believe I will have my first video up sometime this week. Anyways, talk to you later bookworms!
There is a new book on the block that I am promoting. This one is called Justice Gone by Nick Lombardi. Justice Gone is the first in a series of psychological thrillers involving Dr Tessa Thorpe, wrapped in the divisive issues of modern American society including police brutality and disenfranchised returning war veterans. You can get it here: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/1785358766/ref=x_gr_w_bb?ie=UTF8&tag=x_gr_w_bb_ca-20&linkCode=as2&camp=15121&creative=330641
Happy Valentine’s day to everyone out there! Spend today with your loved one and do something special even if that is only watching a show together or just spending some quality time hanging out.
Or if you are single, don’t sweat it. Today is your day to celebrate you and your awesomeness!
This is a short and sweet post but just wanted to let everyone know to enjoy their day regardless of being in a relationship or not. We don’t celebrate ourselves enough and we all deserve it. Stay tuned for a review of the second book in a trilogy I am reading. It will be posted tomorrow :).
Wow guys. This is so awesome. I know it is only a small achievement but still very exciting to know that the reviews we write are being read and that people are wanting more. We are so appreciative of everyone in the book blogging community and want to continue to bring more reviews and content to it.
Our next goal is to get to 400 followers! Let’s see if we can make that happen!
A shoutout to some bloggers that have helped us along the way or just were very supportive:
These are just some of them. Know that we value all of you and are super happy that you have been so supportive.
Well, that was a short and sweet post but we just wanted to share our gratitude. What are your goals? Do you celebrate little achievements or just the big ones? Comment below and let us know. We want to share your successes just as much as we do with our own.
It has been a flurry over here at Breakeven Books. We are getting prepared for the holiday season and are busy buying Christmas gifts, baking goodies and finishing up all the projects of the year.
And the best part about the holidays?! More time to read 🙂 I already have a list of 3 books I want to try and finish over the holidays. But I will still be saving time to do the regular Christmas traditions with the family such as driving around looking at Christmas lights with a thermos of cider, listening to Christmas music, and watching Christmas movies (especially It’s A Wonderful Life on December 24th).
I also get a week off of my full-time job so that is nice. Nothing like a little R&R over the holidays.
Does your family have any holiday traditions that you partake in each year? What are they? Tell me in the comments below 🙂
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays bookworms.
I know this post is a little late but I just wanted to express my sadness for the loss of Stan Lee. This man was a legend and an inspiration to all. He created most of the comics that I loved and adored as I grew up (still love them to this day). He is the reason I got into drawing and art in general. I have one of his drawing guidebooks that I used to practice with as a kid. You could say that it is because of him that I went to school for Graphic Design and am working in the design field.
His memory will live on in all of his beautiful creations and the stories to come in the Marvel universe. We owe it to him to continue to read comicbooks and to believe in ourselves because we can do anything we put our mind to.
PS. In honor of Stan, use the link below to get 15% off your purchase at Indigo Chapters.

Wow guys. I saw this morning that I had some traffic referred to my blog from a source I had never seen before so I checked it out and it turns out that I am on the Top 100 Canadian Book Bloggers and Websites to Follow list! You can find me at #49 on the list (in the top percentile by 1% woop woop).
You can find the list here: https://blog.feedspot.com/canadian_book_bloggers/
It is days like this that show all the progress I have made with this little blog. I never would have started this if it wasn’t for my friend Kylee Bakowski. She gave me the idea to start a blog because I talked about books a lot and she saw it as a way to get myself connected with other like-minded people. I am glad that I listened to her and tried it out 🙂
The blog has been live for about a year now and it has been a productive year full of book reviews, being a part of various blog tours, interacting with so many authors and above all the book blogging community. I put enough time into this blog that it could be a full time job. Wouldn’t that be the dream….reading books for work!
Anyways, just a little update this morning but what a cool surprise to see that I made it onto a list. If you get a chance, check out the blogs on the list. A lot of them are the fellow bloggers that converse with me on a weekly basis and will provide excellent book reviews for authors out there.
It’s the holiday season in Canada where we eat our fill of turkey and drink our fill of wine, spirits or in my case … beer :). I love this weekend in October because I get to see my family and enjoy some nice rest and relaxation in the home that I grew up in. Usually, we go for a small hike or walk through the woods but the weather has been pretty drizzly so far this weekend so it has been spent inside with board games and the smells of delicious food filling the house.
I have been marking papers and reading a little bit but mainly catching up with old friends. I hope everyone out there is having a good Thanksgiving and are thankful for the important people they have in their lives. This applies to you too my American friends but in November 😛
I am thankful for my family and the friends that are pretty much family to me. For the people that just bring a smile to my face. And for all those books out there still waiting to be read 🙂
So with that, Happy Thanksgiving! Tell me about your Thanksgiving traditions if you have any in the comments below.
