Happy Thanksgiving!

It’s the holiday season in Canada where we eat our fill of turkey and drink our fill of wine, spirits or in my case … beer :). I love this weekend in October because I get to see my family and enjoy some nice rest and relaxation in the home that I grew up in. Usually, we go for a small hike or walk through the woods but the weather has been pretty drizzly so far this weekend so it has been spent inside with board games and the smells of delicious food filling the house.

I have been marking papers and reading a little bit but mainly catching up with old friends. I hope everyone out there is having a good Thanksgiving and are thankful for the important people they have in their lives. This applies to you too my American friends but in November 😛

I am thankful for my family and the friends that are pretty much family to me. For the people that just bring a smile to my face. And for all those books out there still waiting to be read 🙂

So with that, Happy Thanksgiving! Tell me about your Thanksgiving traditions if you have any in the comments below.

What are you reading?

Hey bookworms.

I have been so busy lately that I haven’t made much progress in terms of reading books so I figured I would ask you all what you are up to! I want to know what you have been reading!

What are you currently reading? What have you recently finished reading? What do you think you will read next?

I want to know. Let us start a conversation and talk about it. I can tell you all the books I plan to read (better take a seat and grab a snack because it’s a long list) and you could tell me if you have read them or what you think of the book covers or whatever we decide to discuss about.

I’m going to get back to my current book Fat Girl on a Plane by Kelly deVos now and hopefully get a big chunk of it done. I’m excited to write a review for this one 🙂

Comment below and lets chat 🙂 Happy reading!

Update: Teaching College

So as many of you know, I am now teaching at Canadore College as a professor for the Appreciation of Media Design course. I never thought way back when I was in the Graphic Design program that I would ever be up at the front doing the actual teaching. But alas, here I am.

It has been taking a lot of my time as I have to lesson plan for each week and my books are feeling lonely (at least I think they are). On top of this, I still have my full-time job as a web developer and decided to do indoor volleyball for the autumn and winter season.

I am still doing my best to read as much as possible so have faith book bloggers, I will be adding more reviews soon. I am currently reading Fat Girl on a Plane by Kelly deVos and am about half way through.

How do you get through week by week with so much to do? Comment below what helps you stay organized? Maybe I could pick up some tips or stargies from you!

Update: I’m moving!

Hey bookworms,

Just a quick little update! I am moving to a new apartment this week so I will be super busy with that and have less time to read!

I know it sucks but I will be back at reading a bunch once I have settled in to my new place. I am working on finishing the book I am currently reading when I get time at night before bed because that is the only free time I seem to have. Also, its my birthday on Monday so that will be a lot of fun!

I hope to get more great book relted content to you soon. I have a new part time reviewer helping out and you should see some of his reviews in the upcoming weeks.

I can’t wait to share pictures of my new place. But that is all for now.

Keep on keeping on my lovely book nerds.

Goal Achieved: 200 Followers!!

Hey bookworms!

I just wanted to write a quick post because I am so grateful to all of you for reading the blog! I have reached 200 followers on the blog (it is up to 211 right now) and this was a personal goal of mine. I like to set goals to make myself push to achieve them and it is so cool when I do. But I wouldn’t have got to this point without all of you and for that, you have my thanks 🙂

Blogger Update: I’m going to Iceland!!!

Hey bookworms!

So I won’t be posting for about a week and a bit as I am going on vacation to Iceland :). I am so excited about this trip. I will be gone from June 8th to June 14th.

There are so many activities planned for this trip. We are renting a car and driving around the entire island. I will be bringing a GoPro on the trip to video document all the cool scenery we see and activities we do.

One of the activities I am excited about is The Blue Lagoon.

sh_497026894-Blue-Lagoon-Iceland-2000x1200

It is a giant geothermal spa! We already booked our spot to go here for our first day in Iceland. It comes with a mud mask and complimentary drink! Now that is one way to start off a trip 😛

It is my first time flying with WOW Air so I will have to let you know how that goes. They have super cheap prices for flights but they charge you extra for your bags and there is no meal included unless you pay for it. I’m not too happy about that but the flights were pretty cheap so I can’t really complain.

Later on in the trip, we are planning on checking out the famous waterfalls and black sand beaches in Iceland. Once we get to Husavik (which is on the opposite side of the island we land on), we are planning to go on a whale watching excursion.

Rounding the end of our trip, we will be Snorkelling in the Silfra Fissure. Silfra is a fissure between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates in Thingvellir National Park. The rift was formed in 1789 by the earthquakes accompanying the divergent movement of the two tectonic plates. The diving and snorkeling site at Silfra is right where the two continents meet and drift apart about 2 cm per year. Silfra is the only place in the world where you can dive or snorkel directly in a crack between two tectonic plates.

I am super excited to do this!! I even bought contacts and am getting used to wearing them so that I can see underwater with a mask on 😛

I have been using the Iceland Rough Guides book to get ready for my trip and will be taking it with me in case I need anything or need help on the road. I love this company and try to buy all my travel books form them as they are so informative and make planning trips a breeze.

Overall, this trip is going to be a blast and I am just excited to do lots of sightseeing and exploring. We are using Airbnb for all of our accommodations during the trip and booking them on the fly as we travel around the island. It is very budget friendly and makes it easier for us. This way we can buy food at a grocery store and then cook it at our airbnb’s because the food is very pricey in Iceland! If you wish to use Airbnb, you can use my discount code to get $40 off your first stay! It also gives me a little credit to use on Airbnb everytime someone does this so it helps out with my travels. Thanks in advance if you use the code. You can access that here:

That’s all for now but I will be showing you guys all the cool photos and maybe a video from my trip when I am back! Of course, I will be reading on the plane and during downtime so there will be some book reviews coming the following week too!

Indigo Affiliates Unite!

Hey bookworms!

So I am pretty excited because I am now an Indigo Affiliate! Chapters is my favorite store and I could get lost in their store for hours. Honestly, the dream is to be a Chapters employee and just talk to people about different books all day.

If I could help just one person find a book or recommend a book to someone to read, my day would be made. I would also look like that hipster employee because my hair is so long right now and I wear a beanie in the summer to keep it all together. The end is near for this hair and I can’t wait to chop it all off. I hope that the person who gets my hair in their wig doesn’t get the ginger curse.

OH YEAH, I am donating my hair. This is a first time doing this for me. It is on my bucket list to do it at least once so I am finally decided to do it. Before and After shots will be shown 😛

Back to the point. This was a short and sweet post but I needed to get the excitement out that I am now part of such a great brand. I will be sharing Indigo links in my posts now so that you can see all their sweet deals and get discounts on some great products (don’t worry, I am still reviewing books and talking about all things books; this is just an added bonus). I love that I am able to represent a company that brings great new titles to readers all over the world 🙂

Anywho, I have some reviews coming up this week so stay posted. Talk to you soon bookworms!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Bookworms!! Happy Holidays or whatever you prefer 🙂 I have been catching up on all my favourite Christmas traditions like watching White Christmas and It’s a Wonderful Life, reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, and even going to a Christmas Eve service with Mom and Dad. Our tree looks really nice (Mom decorated it, I am at my parents for the holidays).

Tomorrow morning I will be on my way to Fort Frances to bring some Christmas Cheer to my good friend Jordan who had to work on Christmas. He is a paramedic so he has to make sure everyone else is being safe over the holidays and give up his own to do so. My flight is at 7am tomorrow but I have a new book to keep me entertained for the journey there and back on New Years Eve.

Also Max says Merry Christmas too. As you can see we both just got out of bed 😛

Well have a great Christmas Day everyone! Eat lots of turkey and drink lots of spirits and keep the good cheer a flowing.

Author Interviews, Christmas and Buying Books

I have been very busy the past week doing Christmas shopping and hosting Ugly Christmas Sweater Parties and whatnot (are they truly ugly if we all wear them in defiance and we rock it?). This is a crazy post where I tell you all that has happened in the past week.

So we are doing Secret Santa at work and I bought my coworker the coolest present but I can’t say what it is because they might read my blog (I don’t know if they do but will not take the chance :P). Let’s just say it involves your head and warmth…and is nerdy. Ok that’s all you get.

I also have been chatting with an author and have maybe got my first victim for an author interview! I’m not sure how that will go because I have never conducted an interview for an author before but we will see 🙂

In the meantime, I picked up Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda because of a recommendation and have been reading that at the same time as my other book. I do have to say that is is very well written and I am enjoying it.
