I don’t know about you guys but when I first learned to read, it was the most exciting thing in the world to me. I could explore anywhere through imagination an become immersed in different adventures all without leaving the couch or reading nook. The first full book I read that I can remember is the 1st book in the Magic Treehouse series.
Synopsis: Where did the tree house come from?
Before Jack and Annie can find out, the mysterious tree house whisks them to the prehistoric past. Now they have to figure out how to get home. Can they do it before dark . . . or will they become a dinosaur’s dinner?
If you grew up in the 90’s, then you definitely have read these books. There are over 100 of them now, you would think that they would run out of adventures to go on but nope. I remember feeling so proud of myself for finishing this book all in one sitting. These books were great for learning to read. This probably started my obsession with having a treehouse.

Ohh the magic treehouse series! Wow, that brings back memories! There was one book in that series with some spooky castle that I used to reread all the time. Mine was The Scent of Magic by Cliff McNish. It’s actually a part of a duology and I read them out of order…I mean what are the chances to read the books in a DUOLOGY in the wrong order? 😀

Don’t remember the first book I read. I remember reading being frustrating, I had to have one on one lessons. They didn’t test for dyslexic when I was younger. The first book I kept track of is Peter Raven Under Fire by Michael Molloy. Great book.

First book is lost in the mists of time. I do recall having to try and read one of those Dick and Jane books way back before I could first read (I could actually read, I just didn’t want to read out loud so the teacher said I couldn’t read). I read the Curious George books when in the early grades though, then Enid Blyton books, and books starring Freddy the pig (the farm animals could talk, which distressed the farmer, Mr. Bean, especially when Freddy dressed up as human and played detective, solving mysteries), books about Marty the alien who has adventures with his human friend on earth, and the 3 investigator series (Robert Arthur, Jr).
My first “real adult” book was Oliver Twist. I was 13, it wasn’t the type of book I’d normally read, but I received it for Christmas. The inscription said welcome to your first adult classic. I liked it so much I went and read the other books by Charles Dickens.
Charles Dickens is awesome! I read a Christmas Carol every year at Christmas 🙂

After my picture book days were over and I excitedly moved up to chapter books, I was hooked on R.L Stine books. I loved the spooky/scary stories.
Oh yes the Goosebumps series were a big part of my childhood 🙂
