As most of you know, I am very behind in my reviews but I am working on catching up. This book was read in September and I am finally getting around to reviewing it. I did review it on my Youtube Channel but here is my written review of The Conviction by John Mathews.

Synopsis: Two criminals are responsible for an innocent man getting sentenced to life for murder. An inept defense attorney and a crooked prosecutor are the other players in this case of egregious American corruption.
The four of them have been lured into a trap in an abandoned warehouse. Someone wants vengeance. This is a story of vigilante justice for the wrongfully convicted. Marked doors lead to four locked rooms, one where each of them will have to pay a price for what they have done. What will they be required to do in order to survive?
This was a novella and I enjoyed it! It was kind of set up like the movie Saw where strangers get led to this place and then they are trapped and tested with puzzles of sorts except this one was testing their morales and integrity more than anything. The cool part about this is that all the people brought together had some sort of shady past where they didn’t exactly follow the law.
I found it very interesting the way the characters had to work together but also figure things out for themselves and make the right decisions in order to escape with their lives. It is definitely a new for of justice and it kept me on my toes as I was reading along.
It was a pretty quick read and I did enjoy myself. Was it fantastic? No. But I feel like it could have been if it was a full book. I would have liked to have a more drawn out process with the captives and their attempts to escape.
Book Rating: 3.5/5
