Book Review: Escape The War

Hello book lovers! It has been a minute since I brought a book review your way! This time, I have a new book called Escape The War by Priyanka Nambiar.

Synopsis: Ivy Judinson is so tired of her life. With a newly-broken friendship, a plummeting GPA, and mean girls seemingly around every corner, freshman year is pretty much a bust. Her only refuge these days is playing ESCAPE THE WAR on her PC, so when Ivy finds an in-game purchase that claims to let her live in the game, she clicks. What she doesn’t expect is to get literally sucked into the game, trapped as a playable character. And the game? It’s an extremely dangerous, war-torn shooter, and if Ivy is going to get out, she’ll first have to survive.

I thought that this book was well done. It was written by a teenager and I thought they did a great job writing a main character in their early teens. The concept was really cool and it pulled me in.

I think that the main character was very relatable since they went through similar struggles in high school that a lot of teenagers experience. And video games!! Every single teenager I know plays video games. Heck, I play video games a lot myself so that was fun. It was a very creative way to show what game characters experience on the other side of the screen.

I do think that some of the choices the main character made were a little unrealistic (especially one big one) but that made for an interesting plot line to follow so that was okay. There was a little lul in the middle of the book where not much was happening but once I got through that, I was engaged again.

I would recommend this book to any young reader that likes video games and action heroes!

Book Rating: 3/5
